Saved from the breeding barn by trainer James Cummings, smart mare Sultry Feeling proved her class with a maiden Group win at Royal Randwick on Apollo Stakes Day taking out the Triscay Stakes 2016.

The four-year-old daughter of Encosta De Lago is heading into a career as a broodmare at Gooree Stud after this campaign, Cummings fighting to keep her racing this one last preparation confident in her ability.
That confidence paid out in the $150,000 Group 3 Robrick Lodge Triscay Stakes (1200m) with Sultry Feeling finally posting a win at her home track.
âSheâs one of the few Iâve kicked up and said âthis mare has a Group win in herââ,â Cummings said.
âSheâs top classâ¦and has that elusive turn of foot.
âSheâs been able to bring that to the Triscay today at Randwick and hold off a good mare in Peeping.
âSheâs done it in good style.â
The mare had had six previous Randwick runs without at top three finish, but she was too good for her rivals in the Triscay.
Racing for the first time since a fourth at Flemington in Group 3 company behind Scarlet Billows on Melbourne Cup Day, Sultry Feeling jumped away well from the barriers to settle into second behind the Anthony Cummings-trained race favourite and leader Vergara.
Parked in third was Ron Quintonâs returning Peeping from the wide alley in the nine-starter field.
One the home turn Vergara slipped away and by the straight it looked too hard a task for any of the backmarkers to make up the ground on those mares up front.
Sultry Feeling ($7) and jockey Kerrin McEvoy put in a fighting finish, the eventual winner brave on the inside edging away to beat home Group 2 winner Peeping ($4.20).
Getting up for third after running on late to claim the favourite Vergara and finish off the Triscay Stakes trifecta with an eye-catching effort late was the Kris Lees-trained Savoureux ($13).
Peeping looked just one run short, looming up to win and travelling well, but Sultry Feeling had the bigger kick and was in good condition.
Plans are now to take her into the $150,000 Group 3 Birthday Card Stakes (1200m) on Golden Slipper Stakes Day at Rosehill Racecourse on March 19, a race Cummings took out last Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival with Shamalia.
âSheâll be a great broodmare,â Cummings admitted.
âI can see us running her in a similar campaign to what we ran Shamalia in with the Birthday Card Stakes.â
All going well and Sultry Feeling could then head into tougher assignments during Aprilâs The Championships back at Royal Randwick.
âPossibly even back for The Championships angling at races like that,â Cummings said.
âItâs a really good start to her prep.â
